Adam and Eve

Adam and Eve
Aplectrum hyemale
Adam and Eve is an orchid better known as Puttyroot.  I'm not sure where either name came from, so if you know, please comment.  I do know that if you Google "Adam and Eve", you don't necessarily get websites about plants! :-)

This is a peculiar little plant.  It's easiest to find in the winter because its single leaf stays green.  The leaf is not present in the summer and the flowers are small and green and its not easy to find.  The best way to do it is to get some of those flags that workmen use to mark underground pipes and lines, and then mark the leaves in the winter, then go back in the summer to find them.

The leaf stays green until the spring
