There are a number of Avens species in Indiana, many of which are quite common, and most of which are not showy and you probably don't even notice them.  Spring Avens fits into that mold.  It blooms, appropriately, in the spring and generally has this droopy appearance, although not all of the time.

Its big claim to fame is that the flower, and therefore the pod, has a stem between it and its calyx (the leafy things right under the flower).  Botanists get all goose pimply about this sort of thing because it allows them to identify the plant even after the flower is gone.
