Eastern Purple Coneflower

Eastern Purple Coneflower
Echinacea purpurea
There are two species of Echinacea in Indiana, this and Pale Purple Coneflower (Echinacea pallida).  They are native to prairie areas and are more common in the northwest part of the state.  This species is used a lot in gardens and in prairie restorations, so it is not uncommon to see it across Indiana.

It looks somewhat similar to Pale Purple Coneflower but has wider petals.  PPC has spindly looking petals.
