Timothy

Timothy
Phleum pretense
Timothy is named after Timothy Hanson, a Maryland farmer who introduced this plant to southern farmers in the early 1700's. It became a major source of cattle fodder by the mid-1700's.

How many plants are named after the first name of someone? Timothy Hanson must have been a very charismatic man, the Cher or Beyonce of the agricultural world.

Timothy is quite common in Indiana and easy to spot. It sticks straight up and has a somewhat distinct flowerhead.
