Carolina Horsenettle

Carolina Horsenettle
Solanum carolinense
Carolina Horsenettle is a rather showy short plant of disturbed areas.  It is a native plant, yet considered invasive.  I think that the prickly nature of its foliage makes it an undesirable plant to have in pastures, so it can be considered a weed.

It's in the Solanaceae family, along with potatoes and tomatoes and its fruit looks a bit like a small tomato.

Fruits look like little tomatoes

The flowers are quite attractive

The leaf has a unique lobed shape
The leaf has prickles all along the underside of the middle vein
