Narrowleaf Plantain

Narrowleaf Plantain
Plantago lanceolata
Narrowleaf Plantain is extremely common in my yard, also in my neighbor's yard and every other yard in northeast Indiana and probably the whole state. It's not native, but then not much else in the typical lawn is native.

It does have an interesting property. The leaves contain all sorts of chemical compounds that help to heal wounds, sores and stings. It has been traditionally used as a poultice for this purpose. I've never tried it, but now I might.
