| Blackseed Plantain Plantago rugelii |
This is another very common plantain in my yard. However, this one is native. I'm not sure what the habitat would have been prior to lawns and driveway cracks, but it's doing well now.
People may think it's a weed in their yard because it isn't grass, but it is a crucial part of the ecosystem in terms of the very small invertebrates. Get down and look close at the flowers and you will see all sorts of little critters there.
