Woodland Lettuce

Woodland Lettuce
Lactuca floridana
There sure are a lot of lettuces out there! They're all pretty much edible at a young age, like all of our domesticated lettuces. I haven't tried the wild ones, but I'll bet they're spicier than the supermarket varieties.

This one is hard to distinguish from Tall Blue Lettuce (Lactuca biennis) given that the both have blue flowers, but this one has different shaped leaves. I don't currently have pictures of Tall Blue Lettuce leaves, so you'll have to google around a bit to find some.

Lactuca biennis is more of a northern plant and Lactuca floridana is more southern, with Indiana being the overlap state, so we get both species, sort of like the weather where we get the northern squalls and lake effect snow while the southern part is basking in warmth.
