Black Locust

Black Locust
Robinia pseudoacacia
Black locust trees are very impressive and have beautiful flowers.  They're native to southern Indiana, but have been planted all over the state and can be quite common.

The twig spines in conjunction with the leaf scar looks like a little devil
The leaves are compound and the leaflet has a smooth margin
